Understanding P&L

Unrealised P&L — current market value minus your total cost basis.

Cost basis is the purchase price you entered when adding / importing a holding.

If you leave the purchase price blank, the cost basis defaults to $0 — P&L will then equal the full market value.

Tax Report

FIFO-based DE/EU tax calculations

How FIFO works

First-In, First-Out means when you sell coins, the oldest purchase is considered sold first. This is the method required by German tax law (§ 23 EStG).

Buy 1 BTC @ $20,000 (Jan 2023)pool
Buy 1 BTC @ $30,000 (Jun 2023)pool
Sell 1 BTC @ $60,000+$40,000 gain
↑ The Jan 2023 purchase is used first → $40k profit

DE / EU tax rules applied

  • 1-year holding rule — coins held > 365 days are tax-free when sold (Germany)
  • €600 exemption — annual private sale gains below €600 are exempt
  • Filter by year — select any tax year to see only the relevant transactions
  • Export — download as PDF or CSV for your tax advisor / Finanzamt submission
Important: CryptoTrack provides informational calculations only. Always consult a qualified tax advisor for your official tax filing.

Physical Bitcoin Coins

Casascius, Denarium, Satori and more

What are physical coins?

Physical Bitcoin coins are collectible metal coins that embed a real Bitcoin private key under a tamper-evident hologram. Each coin has a fixed denomination (e.g. 0.001 BTC, 0.1 BTC, 1 BTC) stamped at minting time. Their fiat value moves with the Bitcoin price.

How values are calculated

Value = denomination_btc × BTC price × coin count

Example — 1 × 0.001 BTC coin at BTC = $100,000:

0.001 × $100,000 = $100.00

Supported manufacturers

Casascius Denarium Satori Lealana Alitin Cryptmint Titan Ravenbit Anatolian Other

Coin data (series, denomination, images) is sourced from the built-in database. Serial numbers are optional but help identify specific items.

Precious Metals

Gold, Silver, Platinum & Palladium

Amount unit

Metal amounts are always entered and stored in grams (g). Prices from the metals API are given per troy ounce (31.1034768 g) and automatically converted to per-gram internally.

Value formula

Value = grams × (price_per_oz ÷ 31.1034768)

Example — 2.5 g gold at $5,109/oz:

2.5 × ($5,109 ÷ 31.10) = $410.65

Frequently Asked Questions

No. CryptoTrack is a manual tracking tool. You enter your holdings yourself — no wallet connections, no API keys, no seed phrases are ever requested.

The prices are updated 3 times per day and cached locally. You can trigger a manual refresh from the settings or by clicking the refresh button on the Dashboard.

Currently one portfolio per user account is supported. Holdings from different exchanges (e.g. Binance and Coinbase) are distinguished by a "source" tag so you can filter them.

On the Portfolio page, click the three-dot menu next to any holding and select Delete. You can also enter a sell transaction via the Transactions tab, which will adjust the holding amount via FIFO.

No. The calculations follow German FIFO rules as a best-effort estimate. Always have a qualified tax advisor review your figures before submission.

Yes — all core features (portfolio view, P&L, tax calculations) work fully offline once the price data has been cached. Only the initial price fetch requires internet access.

Always grams. Enter your gold or silver weight in metric grams. The app internally divides the API price (per troy oz) by 31.1034768 to get the per-gram rate, then multiplies by your gram amount.
